Barcelona's Eixample:

Ildefons Cerdà (1815 - 1876) was a Civil engineer, Town planner and politician who proposed a Barcelona enlargement, planning a road axis every 113.30 meters and streets of 20 meters oriented parallel to the sea. Also, other wider roads made easier the external communication. He allocated the 50% of the width of the streets (10 m.) for the vehicle traffic and the 50% remaining for people (2 sidewalks of 5 m.). The plots have a chamfer of 20 m. which facilitates turning at intersections and inside, there are placed the buildings and the gardens. He even proposed up to 20 versions of buildings. The social facilities were organized so that they were assigned a plot out of every 25, and markets had one plot out of every 100, generating equality in road system and general services. Only the road network that has reached our days has been preserved.
